Patlabor: The Movie is a 1989 anime film directed by Mamoru Oshii, with an original story by Headgear. It was produced by Bandai Visual, Tohokushinsha and animated by Tatsunoko's subsidiary studio I.G. Tatsunoko and Studio Deen. It is part of the Patlabor anime and manga franchise.
If you are planning to watch any of the Patlabor movies then remember that it is not an action/anime movie about 'labor' robots and their crew. Rather, it can best be described as a futuristic detective story that happen to be in a time where 'labor' robots are around and in use.
I wanted to enjoy this blu ray so much. I am a huge fan of the Patlabor films having recorded them from the TV back in the day and also having bought the original DVDs when they came out in the early 2000's.

Patlabor: The Movie is essentially a detective drama that just happens to include mechs, and much of the interaction of the characters actually reinforces the belief that these robots are simply "tools of the trade" rather than anything wondrous or special.
